Sports Massage – What is it?

Sports massage is a type of massage focusing on the application of certain techniques with the purpose of enhancing preparation for, or recovery from, the physical demands of training or competition.

Sports massage is used not only to help prevent injuries but it is helpful in getting the athlete physically ready for activity. It also helps to maintain the body in optimal condition and can help in the recovery from workouts or from injuries.

This type of massage can be provided on-site at events or at a team health care clinic. We strongly believe that local teams, clubs and all physically active individuals can benefit from sport massage that is provide by therapists certified in providing sports massage and who are typically affiliated with the CSMTA (Canadian Sports Massage Association).

Sports massage has three basic forms: pre-event massage, post-event massage, and maintenance massage. At Custom Bodies Fitness and Massage we provide sports massage with a bit of a twist….We provide the traditional sport massage utilizing one therapist but to be as efficient as we can and to provide the athlete with an effective full-body treatment we also provide 4-hand sport massage utilizing the skills of two therapists who are certified in Advanced Sports Massage.

“Think of it as a normal full-body massage times two,” What’s that even mean, you ask? The four-handed sports massages features a synchronized massage by way of two therapists with advanced certifications in orthopaedic and sport massage in addition to IASTM and STR. Yes, it can be completely relaxing in the form of a Swedish massage or a full-body deep tissue massage. UNWIND – PRE- WORKOUT MASSAGE (Relaxation)

A classic technique using therapeutic soft tissue manipulation to ease muscular tension and stress while providing deep relaxation and a sense of renewal just before commencing a workout, this massage usually lasts 60+ minutes and utilizes the skills of two therapists.

DEEP TISSUE – SPORTS MASSAGE

A must for flexibility, recovery and restoration. Deep pressure techniques are applied to targeted muscle groups to warm up muscles prior to your workout or to flush post-workout toxins; this massage usually lasts 60+ minutes and utilizes the skills of two therapists.

RENEW – POST WORKOUT MASSAGE

A series of intensive techniques are used to manipulate sore, tight muscles and the connective tissues that hold them in place. Deep tissue work increases circulation, releases built-up toxins, and heals and restores balance to the body and nervous system; this massage usually lasts 60+ minutes and utilizes the skills of two therapists.

Therapeutic Massage

Quick relief for the individual who wants specific attention to problem areas. This massage is designed to improve flexibility, range of motion and stiffness. It usually lasts 20 minutes and utilizes the skills of two therapists.
