The Children of Burundi – A Closer Look
Another update from Ben.
Update: For the next few weeks, I will be posting interviews I have done with the children I’ve met. These interviews have taken a lot out of me, and each story will break your heart. I am posting these stories with the hope that many of you will fall in love with these children just as I have.
My partner, photographer, and translator for this project is my good friend Egide, who I met here. Together, we are hoping to not only reach our fundraising goal, but find families in Canada who would like to permanently sponsor these children through their schooling. Every single dollar will go to the child, and also provide financial assistance to their guardians (parents, siblings, relatives etc).
We have realized through our interviews that many of these children live with someone who tries to take care of them, but through no fault of their own falls extremely short. We want to help the children at home, surrounded by the people who love them, in a family setting.
This is part of the healing process for me. My experience two weeks ago with the child has been burned into my memory, and I will never forget it. But in life, we can’t always control what happens to us. The only thing we can control is how we respond to these negative experiences. I am doing my best to respond to that terrible day positively, by doing something about it. I’m doing it for him.
I Love y’all, and thank you for joining me on this journey. The support has been unbelievable. #ChildrenOfBurundi
