Mother’s Day falls on May 13, 2018. It is the one day of the year when it seems that we turn extra attention to our mothers.
Although we appreciate our mothers all year long, Mother’s Day is still the day on which we reflect how much she means to us, how much she has done for us, how much she really cares for us.
Our views of Mother’s Day were very different when we were children. It was so exciting…It was a day when you’d work really hard on making that handmade card, leaving a tangible piece of ourselves for our mother to look back on for years to come. I remember it being a time when you’d kind of get to “show off” your mom and the Mother’s Day tea put on in elementary school.
As we grow up, we begin to realize the amount of tender love, care and dedication our mothers gave to you. And even though you may never truly be able to repay her for raising and caring for you, you can let her know how special she is to you.
History of Mother’s Day
We tend to think of Mother’s Day as “just another Hallmark holiday”; however, contrary to this believe, the tradition actually dates back to Ancient Greece and was originally a celebration that honoured the Mother of the Gods: Rhea.
In this celebration, Ancient Greeks would drink the best wines and eat the best of foods in celebration of the mother who was believed to have given birth to their entire creation.
If you look further into the origins of this special day, you will see that humans have celebrated mothers since the beginning of time.
How can I show my appreciation this year?
Instead of showering your mother in overpriced gifts, flowers, and candy, why not give her a truly touching gift.
First of all, don’t reserve appreciation for your mother to just this one day a year. Tell her on a daily basis how much you love her, how much you appreciate her and just spend time with her.
The best gifts will always come from your heart so make a point of showing her love on a daily basis and then when Mother’s Day rolls around….give her a little extra love by giving her the gift of relaxation and rejuvenation.
If you require extra appreciation in the form of flowers, music, and/or chocolates…please reach out to us to discuss.
